Ortiz, Jr. Appointed to Select Committee on Federal Legislation
Committee Will Review Impact of Federal Health Care Reform on Texas

State Representative Solomon Ortiz, Jr. announced today that he has been chosen to serve on the Select Committee on Federal Legislation by Joe Straus, Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives. "Rep. Ortiz's hard work and knowledge of key issues will be very helpful to the Select Committee on Federal Legislation," said Speaker Straus. The committee will review and monitor significant pending federal legislation that will affect Texas, particularly Congress's health care reform efforts and their potential impact on the state's health care system. The committee has 15 members and is chaired by State Rep. John Zerwas.

"I have been closely following the health care debate in the U.S. Congress and am honored to have been selected by Speaker Straus to serve on this committee," said Rep. Ortiz. "Federal health care reform will dramatically alter the health care playing field. I commend Speaker Straus for having the foresight to create this committee so that the Legislature will be prepared to adjust Texas' health care system in response to any changes at the federal level," Ortiz continued.
